The space

Twinflower Cabin is a cozy, modern cabin with lots of 70’s & 80’s nostalgia mixed in. The space is perfect for individual retreats, couple’s getaways, honeymoons, or a trip with a few friends. The main bedroom is in the open loft and there is a sleeper sofa in the living room.

As the story goes, this cabin existed originally as a pole barn and was owned by an author from Lexington who would come out to the property to write. The cedar cabin now has been fully finished and renovated, while maintaining the energy of an artist’s retreat space and its original laid back, vintage-woodsy feel. Natural and grounding materials were selected whenever possible to maintain a close connection to nature. Whatever your reason to visit, we hope you enjoy the many opportunities to slow down, breathe deep in the forest air, and connect with your creativity.

INSIDE:

Bedroom Loft:
Your sleeping space includes a king memory foam mattress topped with white linen sheets, a down-alternative duvet, and heirloom-style quilt. For your comfort, we also offer a pillow bar – so you can choose just the right pillow for a great night’s sleep. Adjustable, ambient lighting atop solid wooden bedside tables lets you set the mood. We offer laid-back linen robes (by The Citizenry) “made using only the finest French flax and woven in the oldest, family-run linen mill in Portugal”. An adjustable ceiling fan is available as well as a Dohm natural sound machine and blackout shades.

You will also find a designated work space overlooking the loft including a large solid wood desk topped with sturdy glass (for easy clean up, in case you drip your paint), a comfy rattan swivel chair, and a Canvas task lamp designed to offer highly adjustable light, perfect for artists, content creators, and makers of all kinds. We also offer a table-top easel and a small selection of art supplies, just in case any artists forgot something. There is nearby outlet access for your laptop or other electronics.

*For any late night bathroom trips, bear in mind that the main bedroom is in the loft and the bathroom is on the main floor. Night lights are placed throughout the cabin to aid in your safety.

Living Room:
The living room boasts a two-story ceiling, with a dramatic mid-century brass chandelier, plush genuine leather chairs, a comfy, souped-up (upgraded memory-foam mattress) queen sleeper sofa, and a Hipster-14 cast iron wood burning stove. You will also find a well-curated library full field guides and other books on nature, retreating, art, faith and spirituality, poetry, and a few fiction titles too. Feel free to use the acoustic guitar, the yoga mats that can be taken outside for yoga in the forest, and birdwatching binoculars.

Under the ladder stairs you will find a Crosley record player (also with Bluetooth music streaming capability using your device) and a selection of records, several by local KY artists. There are also playing cards, several games, and on-theme puzzles. We do not have a tv, however good quality wifi is available to you.

Kitchen:
In the kitchen you will have everything needed to make nourishing meals during your stay.

A drinking water filtration system is incorporated into the stainless steel sink top as well, and is connected to the ice maker in the freezer so you can always have ice on hand. We also have large ice cube trays for bourbon on the rocks.

In the bar area, you will find a variety of new and vintage barware, bottle opener and cork screw, wine glasses, official Bourbon Trail bourbon glasses, and a basic mixing tool set.

Le Creuset tea kettle, burr coffee grinder, Stanley stainless-steel French press, and Smeg drip coffee pot are all available for you along with organic coffee beans roasted locally by Sunergos Coffee. You will also find a variety of creamers, syrups, other sweeteners, and an assortment of teas. We hope you enjoy sipping from the stoneware mugs, each one of a kind made by hand by local Kentucky and Indiana artisans.

For food prep…whether you want to cook a delicious dinner for two, get into baking mode, or maybe you want to juice while on retreat, you will be well equipped in the kitchen. You are provided with a knife set, cutting boards, Vita-mix One blender, easy to use cold press juicer, toaster, stainless steel pots and pans, Dutch oven, slow cooker, baking sheets, muffin tins, glass bakeware, can opener, hand mixer, grill tools, marshmallow roasting sticks, glass storage containers for leftovers, and more. Additionally, we offer pantry staples including oil, salt, pepper, and an assortment of spices and herbs, oil, vinegar, flour, sugar, GF oats, and white rice. Parchment paper, foil, and plastic bags.

If you want to easily create a magical evening outdoors under the stars, we have lanterns, linen napkins, a table cloth, and a selection of trays, platters, and basket to carry things outside. Maybe you want to grill a pizza or make steaks for two? Charcuterie board and wine? You provide the food and drinks, we’ve got the rest. If you want to keep it simple, we have plenty of beautiful stoneware dishes, a full silverware set, and a set of sturdy glasses. Please use plastic wine glasses for the hot tub.

We provide all-natural dish soap and starter sponge, paper towels and trash bags. Please note, we do not have a dishwasher. If you prefer to try out a local eatery, there are many wonderful restaurants about 15 min away in Lawrenceburg.

Bathroom:
Enter through the sliding barn door into the bathroom and immerse yourself in a spa-like experience with aromatic cedar ceilings, glistening, handmade zellige tile in the shower with linen curtain, and a vintage-style cast tub.

We are proud to offer high quality natural soaps made locally in KY by Earthy Browns. A variety of other toiletries are on hand for you including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, makeup wipes, body lotion, and cotton swabs.

You will also find a full-size, salon quality infrared hair dryer with diffuser option.

Relax further by using the infrared sauna light. This healing red light is said to counteract the effects of the blue light that comes from screens and helps your body heal, and it is also soothing as it mimics the warm light of the sunset.

Keep in mind, we are on a septic system so PLEASE do not flush anything other than toilet paper.

Full size washer and dryer is available for guest use and a starter of free & clear laundry pods is provided.

OUTSIDE:

In the front of the property you will find a front deck, fire pit (wood provided) with chairs, an outdoor dining area, charcoal grill (must provide your own charcoal), and hammock.

Off the back of the cabin is a furnished covered patio with comfortable seating and hammock swing, lounging chairs, salt water hot tub, and private outdoor shower surrounded by forest and ferns (seasonal). In the evenings, enjoy walking the moon garden which wraps around the house, containing an assortment of Kentucky native plants whose blooms love to reflect the moonlight.

Be sure to take a hike on the clearly marked and maintained on-site hiking trail, which stretches a good portion of the 5.5 acres that make up the property. It is an approximately 15-20 minute hike, easy-moderate difficulty and on natural terrain. Feel free to take the binoculars along for bird watching! Depending on the time of year, you can see a variety of wildflowers and mushrooms, small forest animals like turtles and sometimes deer. We have a travel sized first aid kit and bug spray on hand for your convenience.
