Fall festival magic settles over Kentucky in mid-October. The air gets crisp, the leaves turn shades of orange and amber, and the town of Lawrenceburg prepares for its most delicious tradition. This year, from October 16 to 18, 2026, the annual Anderson County Burgoo Festival is back with warm bowls and warm hearts.
The historic downtown streets are closed to traffic and transformed into a marketplace for all. Visitors stroll through the heart of the festival and explore a variety of vendor booths. Local artists proudly display their crafts, showcasing everything from hand-carved woodwork to beautiful pottery. A few steps further, visitors can browse apparel from local boutiques, like Simply Blessed and Sweet Mash, or stop in at Southern Olive Gourmet Grocery or Tastefully Delicious to shop for recipe essentials to make your own hearty bowl of burgoo.
For families, the festival is packed with activities for a day or night of family fun. Children can enjoy thrilling carnival rides, along with interactive booths for slime making and sand art, or show off their talents in a Kids Karaoke. On Saturday morning, families can gather downtown for a story time sponsored by the Anderson County Public Library.
Of course, the real star of the weekend is the burgoo. For those new to the dish, burgoo is a legendary Kentucky stew, slow-cooked to perfection with a hearty mix of meats and vegetables. The golden rule of the festival is simple: arrive early. Four traditional burgoo vendors set up shop, and their piping-hot cauldrons draw long lines of festivalgoers wanting a taste of family recipes. The Sheriff’s Department hosts the Burgoo Cookoff, where guests can sample a wide variety of different burgoos, comparing the spices and secret ingredients of other local cooks.
This year’s festival also features some unique additions to the lineup. The inaugural hay bale toss invites crowds to cheer and laugh as participants test their strength. Nearby, a tractor show will be held, spotlighting all types of farm tractors including some beautifully restored classic machines that tell the story of Kentucky’s rich farming heritage.
To top it all off, live musical performances on the courthouse steps and Lawrenceburg Green at Century Bank Park provide the weekend soundtrack. Whether it’s the twang of bluegrass, the soul of country, or classic rock, music plays through the streets at every turn. This year, you can look forward to an Elvis tribute from Josh Pack and Fever, Sticktite, HillyBilly Frank, Derek Dove and Peacekeepers, along with some of our local stars like Rayna and Ramsey, Jeremy Zeller, and Matt Lunsford (just to name a few).
On Saturday morning, visitors can grab a coffee and pastry at Off the Ground Coffee Shop and settle in for the beloved Burgoo Pageant, a wonderful local tradition celebrating the community’s youth.
On Sunday morning, the community offers a delicious pancake breakfast followed by two different church services, offering a peaceful start to the festival’s final day.
The Anderson County Burgoo Festival is more than just a food event; it’s a celebration of our heritage, family, and hospitality. Plan a visit to experience an unforgettable autumn weekend—and be sure to arrive early for the burgoo!
