For the fifth year in a row, Lawrenceburg’s downtown merchants will be hosting their Adult Trick or Treat event on Main Street.
This year they’ll be shutting down South Main Street on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6-9 p.m. for the annual festivities, intended for adults to have a chance to dress up in costume, have a night out and visit downtown’s shops and restaurants.
Bourbon Beats Mobile DJ will be there throughout the night with music to set the mood, including the soundtrack for the Dancing Witches, who’ve been a popular attraction during prior years.
Also back for 2020 is the Halloween dog costume contest, being put together by the Anderson County Humane Society and Sweet Doodle Co. Stop in at Sweet Doodle Co. from 6-6:45 p.m. for the judging. There is no cost to enter, but donations will be accepted and used to help purchase pet oxygen masks to put on all of the city and county firetrucks.
There will also be an adults-only costume contest, so be creative if you plan to enter. Judges will be set up at the tourism tent in the middle of Main Street. Stop by there before 8 p.m. if you want to take part. There is no cost to enter. Winners will be announced shortly after 8 p.m.
In addition to what’s happening in the street, most downtown businesses will be having their own special activities and drinks inside, so stop in and see what they are all doing.
Rising Sons Winery will be set up to sell their popular wine slushies and West Sixth Brewing is coming over from Lexington to offer craft beer.
There will also be live music later in the evening at Bourbon Street on Main. The band Graveyard Romeo will be playing from 8-11 p.m., with a$5 cover charge to get in. On Halloween night there is also a $5 cover charge for their Halloween party, which includes a costume contest with prizes for the top three costumes. The band Taylor Road will be performing music from the 80s through today. Both nights they will offer “spooky surprise cocktails,” which includes one drink as a tribute to the band performing each evening. Both cocktails will feature a top shelf bourbon. Chef Laura will display her talents each night, offering creative seasonal appetizers.
While you are downtown, either night, you’ll want to walk around and look at the Halloween scenes painted on 23 different windows at various businesses, along with the lighted display of Jack-O-Lanterns on the courthouse steps.
And if the costumes aren’t spooky enough for you, join in the Lawrenceburg Ghost Walk at 8 p.m. on Friday or Saturday and hear Jeff Waldridge’s first-hand accounts of paranormal investigations he has conducted at locations throughout downtown. Tickets for the ghost walk are $10 and can be reserved in advance by calling 502-510-8777. If you are wearing a costume, you’ll receive $2 off the ticket price.
Masks (not just the scary ones!) and social distancing will be required of those who plan to attend Adult Trick or Treat.
