Anderson County Burgoo Festival celebrating 26th year

One of Lawrenceburg’s biggest annual events is about to take over downtown.

Yes, it’s time again for the Anderson County Burgoo Festival. From Sept. 27-29, the festival will occupy the 100-200 blocks of Main Street, all of Western Avenue and the Lawrenceburg Green.

Throughout the weekend there will be music, entertainment, carnival rides, contests, vendors and plenty of food for sale. And since this is the Burgoo Festival, burgoo is on the menu too, both from select vendors and during the Saturday burgoo cookoff, where anybody can help be a judge.

Activities at this year’s festival kick off at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 with free carnival rides from 10-11 a.m. and the “Show Us Your Talent” competition from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Merchants and vendors open at 2 p.m. and other activities will go on throughout the afternoon and evening.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, things kick off with an 8 a.m. pancake breakfast and then a number of activities throughout the day. For burgoo fans, the burgoo cookoff is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be live music on the Green during the late afternoon and into the evening.

The festival resumes at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 and includes a motorcycle show that day, more talent competitions and other events as well.
