Bauer’s Candies in Lawrenceburg is home of the Modjeska, a candy that has a long history in Kentucky. The Modjeska, a homemade creamy marshmallow center dipped into a rich and creamy homemade caramel, is named after Polish actress Madame Helena Modjeska, famed queen of the European stage who appeared at the McCauley Theater in Louisville in 1883. You can visit the production facility in Lawrenceburg to see how Modjeskas are made, but call or email in advance to check tour availability on the day you wish to visit.
