Bourbon Sessions at the Ripy Mansion

January 10, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Make plans to come to the Ripy Mansion for a tasting and tour with mother-daughter duo Joyce and Autumn Nethery, from Jeptha Creed Distillery, who are creating a legacy for their family and their hometown of Shelbyville, one ground to glass spirit at a time. Co-owner and Marketing Manager Autumn Nethery spent a year studying distilling in Scotland and traveling abroad with Semester at Sea. She is now one of the youngest distillery owners in the country. Joyce Nethery, co-owner of Jeptha Creed, attended the University of Louisville Speed School where she gained her Master’s degree in chemical engineering. She is flexing her engineering muscles as Jeptha Creed’s master distiller developing delicious spirit recipes with the help of her amazing family and staff.

The name Jeptha Creed is derived from both Kentucky and Scottish heritage, two ideals to which the Netherys hold true. Jacobite and Scottish soldier James Nethery came to the American colonies from Scotland as an indentured servant after being captured in the Battle of Preston in 1715. He and his family settled in what is now Shelbyville, KY, home of the Jeptha Knob, the highest point in the state. It was discovered by American frontiersmen and brothers Squire Boone, founder of the first settlement in Shelby County, KY, and the one-and-only Daniel Boone, who named the knob after a biblical warrior in Judges 11.

After learning about the Jeptha Knob’s rich Kentucky history, the Netherys decided to make Jeptha part of their name. In addition to this piece of hometown history, the Netherys wanted to honor an important creed passed down through their family for generations. Derived from the Scottish motto, Ne Oublie, meaning “never forget,” they promise to always remember where they came from. This combination of both their Kentucky and Scottish roots resulted in the creation of the “Jeptha Creed” brand and promise, their commitment to offer a unique and unforgettable experience, rooted in tradition and heritage, to everyone who walks through the distillery doors.

Join the Ripy Mansion as they celebrate these two preeminent women of bourbon. As always, tastings and a tour of the mansion will be included.
