Sand Spring Baptist Church schedules 10 gospel concerts for 2019

You wouldn’t know it by seeing it from the outside, but Sand Spring Baptist Church has become a gospel music-lovers paradise.

Built along old U.S. 127, just south of Lawrenceburg, the church houses a 900-seat auditorium. That is where – sometimes a dozen or more times a year – award winning, nationally-known gospel groups come to perform at free shows that last for more than three hours.

The church’s gospel concert history dates back to 2006 when the Crossmen Quartet group was booked to perform at the church. An expansion of their then 300-seat sanctuary and the work of a few church members helped grow that single concert into a series that is now booked a year in advance.

In 2019, Sand Spring will host at least 10 different gospel concerts. Those are held from 7-10:30 p.m., generally on Thursday nights, though some are held on a Friday. The church doesn’t charge admission to their concerts and only books groups who will perform on a love offering basis.

If you attend a gospel concert at Sand Spring Baptist Church, expect a full house, but not everybody will be local. Visitors come from throughout Kentucky and it isn’t unusual to see out-of-state tags on vehicles in the parking lot.

And if you can’t make it to a concert, you can still listen to them on WCGW (770 AM/93.3 FM) in Versailles, WDFB (1170 AM/88.1 FM) in Junction City, WHBN (1420 AM) in Harrodsburg, and WTLH (90.5 FM) in Somerset.
